About the Project

“The Jean Monnet Module on The European Union Multidimensional Strategy for Tackling Africa’s Challenges” – EU4AFRI (2019–2022) concerns the EU’s capacity to provide effective development assistance for African countries. The project takes into consideration the key challenges of African countries, the EU’s role in the global system of international organisations providing development assistance as well as the new circumstances resulting a.o. from The Joint Africa – EU Strategy.

The main objective of the EU4AFRI project is to promote research and to provide highly innovative and comprehensive courses and seminars on the increasingly important issues related to the EU’s capacity to provide effective development assistance for African states in the face of the key Africa's challenges as well as the EU’s role in the global system of international organisations providing development assistance nowadays. Additionally, the project is aimed at giving students the factual knowledge and practical skills, which will encourage them to get involved in the shaping of EU policies, promoting a deeper understanding of these complex issues.


 

The detailed objectives of the project are:

  1. Expanding the SGH didactic offer with two new courses and additional seminars related to the abovementioned subject.

  2. Establishing grounds for the general EU development policy research at the Collegium of Socio-Economics, SGH, especially in the face of new dynamic environment and changing paradigm of the EU – Africa relations.

  3. Supporting dialogue and cooperation between the academic community and practitioners, and engaging students and young scholars in both scholarly activities and policy-shaping process.

  4. Equipping students from SGH and other universities with factual knowledge in the form of training staff for international and non-governmental organisations and socially involved businesses, as well as shaping attitudes which facilitate work in abovementioned institutions.

  5. Improving students’ engagement by combing lectures and interactive seminars with innovative learning methods such as Design Thinking.


 

Key actions during the project are:

  1. Introducing two new courses on the abovementioned subject over six teaching semesters, oriented on practical knowledge and activating students by innovative learning methods.

  2. Conducting 12 interactive seminars based on Design Thinking method and three open international expert seminars on issues devoted to the EU’s capacity to act as a platform for tacking Africa's challenges.

  3. Organising three contests for an infographic covering the issues contained in the project, for SGH and other academia students and Ph.D. candidates, as well as organising and promoting both virtual and real exhibitions of the best works.

  4. Publishing or co-publishing at least three academic articles, at least one in renowned international journal, as a direct result of the research and/or international expert meetings proceedings.

  5. Organising the international conference ending the project.
